Seven saltwater tanks of varying shapes, sizes and habitats bring retailer's "Atlantis" vision to life
A trip to Fry's Electronics in San Marcos, California, is more than a shopping excursion; it's a "voyage" into the Atlantis underworld, thanks to the creativity and expertise of ICM designers and animal husbandry specialists.
The aquarium complex comprises seven saltwater tanks of different shapes, sizes and habitats – Caribbean, Pacific Reef and Red Sea – as well as two tanks of moray eels and a massive, 32,000-liter shark tank. Featuring two black tip reef sharks, and a dynamic array of marine life that can live safely with them, this cylindrical tank is 3 meters high, more than 3.5 meters in diameter and is made of acrylic that's 51 millimeters thick.
This awe-inspiring, spectacular exhibit built in 2003 is key to Fry's effective strategy to build store traffic and attract shoppers via uniquely themed stores – and is still producing "electrifying" results for the leading electronics retailer.
