A "coming of age" symbol in Lithuania, the AB Baltic Mega Mall aquarium is the vibrant, living centerpiece of the Mega Mall in Kaunas, a city in the midst of an extensive revitalization. Designed, engineered and managed by ICM, the breathtaking exhibit is part of a growing trend in the global retail industry to use expansive, acrylic aquariums as an effective strategy for building mall traffic and attracting shoppers.

The AB Baltic exhibit has captured the hearts of area residents, who come face-to-face (behind expansive acrylic viewing panels) with more than 800 tropical fish from the Caribbean, Indo-Pacific and Pacific reef areas. From four black tip and two white tip reef sharks to tiny angel, puffers, tangs, wrasse and parrot fish, the artificial saltwater coral reef is their ideal underwater home.

The sharks and other species "moved in" in December 2005, following a fast-track construction that ICM began in mid-June of that year. As project designer and project coordinator for the aquarium, ICM's in-depth expertise enabled the team to hit the ground running and meet the tight time frame. We not only provided full time project management for the construction and commissioning of the aquarium, but also provided operational and curatorial services for six months following the opening.

Today, the AB Baltic Mega Mall aquarium is a favorite of local residents, a solid business strategy for the retail environment… and a promising future for a city in transition.
